Cruise ship carrying 1,500 passengers stuck in Spain port due to Bolivian passengers' visa problems
A cruise ship carrying around 1,500 passengers has been stuck in the Spanish port of Barcelona due to visa issues with a group of Bolivian passengers who were supposed to disembark there. The Bolivian passengers, totaling 69 individuals, are not being allowed to leave the ship because they lack valid documents to enter the European border-free Schengen area.
Spanish government officials are working with Bolivian authorities and MSC Cruises to resolve the situation. Meanwhile, the remaining passengers on board the MSC Armony are waiting to continue their journey to Croatia.
Bolivian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Fernando Pérez has raised questions about possible fraud in obtaining the visas, suggesting that some Bolivians may have been duped into obtaining fake visas in a potential scam.
It's a tricky situation, and hopefully, a resolution can be found soon for the passengers and crew on board.
