SLC-S30/W5 | CineAtlas60 : Movement Scene
I decided to make my camera move today while focusing on an object that's static. I was also in motion and both of us were definitely in fear. I was in fear of falling off the bridge if it collapsed and my heart was racing as if something bad was about to happen. My phone on the other hand suffered the action and felt it may fall off from my hand to the ground. This was the most phobia scene I ever thought of to do a cinematic view. The details are set below.

This place is a bridge or walkway across a large road where vehicles use one way without different lanes. This bridge is located at University of Uyo, Town Campus. It was built by the school to aid students cross the road without casualties as there have been casualties of students bumping on vehicles when crossing the wide road. It's a public space and the location is shared below in both maps.
This is Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. If you're coming from Plaza, you'll stop by the bus stop. From there, the bridge is visible or if you're coming from Ikot Ekpene Rd, it's still by the Dakkada roundabout where you'll see the visible bridge. This bridge doesn't connect to any road, but it has links which makes it central. You can access this bridge by going through or coming from the following routes;
- Ikpa road.
- ITU road
- Ikot Ekpene Rd
- Plaza
- Ibiam Street, etc.

The location works well for movement because it's meant for movement either as the subject or make an object or move on the bridge. It's placed on a natural scene where those on it can actually view the height from below and see vehicles crossing underneath the bridge.

So since it's meant for movement as a shortcut path for preventing road accidents, passers-by move on this, some with the fear of falling off that's why most people can't walk without holding the rails of the bridge which is iron made. It has a metal board that eliminates the thought of the bridge collapsing even if someone stamps his foot on it or jumps on it.
Movement feels so natural and expressive in that, when you're down from the bridge, you'll definitely want to express how you felt up there to someone. It's worse than an elevator because on this bridge, your possible target if it collapses is the ground, 10 feet from the bridge. That's death.
The journey the viewer will feel in this film is the journey of life. Life is a journey with a bridge that has an end. You must cross this bridge or bridges if you definitely want to see the end. If you allow fear of what you see while crossing the bridge to hold onto you, you won't make it.

Some people feel it's impossible to become successful in life's journey because of what you'll pass through. The bridge is a sign that it's possible if only you avoid negative thoughts and take practical steps to make this possible.
This is one of the many road bridges in my city, Uyo. It's so beautifully designed in a way that makes movement looks like one is walking through a castle entrance.

The camera was moving from one end of the bridge to the other on a shaky level because the mediator was holding it with one hand while the other hand was used to hold the rail of the bridge.
If you look carefully, you won't see any major third-party. It's just my phone's camera that's moving. I chose this location because it's a bridge and when you hear the word bridge, it clearly means motion because that's what a bridge is built for and it's central. It's the best cinematic view for those going on an adventure.

You stay on the bridge, move to any direction just to see what's happening beneath the bridge. The cinematic feeling I wanted to create is the tension of crossing or walking through a osd bridge. It's fun to be up there, but it's not fun to look down from my that height except for people who aren't afraid of heights. It's the feeling of being careful when you're holding on to three things. Your heart, your camera and the rails of the bridge.
How movement helps tell your story or emotion
The emotions created in the film is fear of falling or fear of the bridge collapsing. To conquer that fear, you just have to keep moving. Don't look at the road with your eyes. Don't also look at the bridge. Use a camera to view as it's not going to be that tensed on camera. My story was based on life's journey like a bridge and how being successful means crossing the bridge by developing your mindset. If you have the mindset of falling and you dwell on it, you may not reach the other end
Whether the movement comes from the camera, the subject, or both
The movement came majorly from the camera and from the subject which held the camera.
Conclusion |
|---|
If you ever want to conquer a phobia, view that phobia on camera as viewing it live won't work. Focusing on the view will help avoid distractions that can cause you to tremble. My motion with my camera and the bridge made me eliminate the immediate phobia for height because I wasn't looking at the real thing. I was focused on the frame.
Life is a journey and the path has two ends like a bridge. To be successful in moving over to the other end, you must conquer negative thoughts or perish with your dwellings on them.

Evaluation — CineAtlas 60 (Week 5: Movement Scene)
Post: @bossj23 — "SLC-S30/W5 | CineAtlas60 : Movement Scene"
Evaluation Summary (Week 5)
Final Score: 9.2 / 10
General Comment
A very strong Week 5 entry. The bridge crossing creates real tension, and the idea goes beyond simple movement by turning the scene into a metaphor about fear and life’s journey. The concept is memorable and well presented, with only a small limitation in camera polish compared to the very best technical entries.

I saw that bridge on Monday, thought of climbing it but the phobia for height wouldn't let me. Can't even walk on that bridge alone. 😭
