Every beginning has an end. So I'll be narrating my journey to Calabar to celebrate with my sister on her induction into the medical field. It was an awesome experience because I made new friends and even saw my students. I used a stone to kill 5 birds at the same time. I was there when she got matriculated into this discipline. In all her joy, we shared like they were ours. Let me give you a detailed narrative on how the celebration was and the activities done on the night of the celebration date.

A Night to Remember

On the night of the induction ceremony, my cousins from my mum's side, who reside in Calabar, told us to come and see them. Since we just arrived in Calabar that day, we decided to stroll and put them as part of our plans. It was the first time getting to know that they were my cousins. So I had cousins that are this big but didn't know? I was in shock but at the same time happy to see them.

They decided to spoil us that night by taking us to a bar where we ordered drinks and ate isiewu, which means goat head. It was my first time eating isiewu in Calabar. The cost of it nearly burst my brain. Like??? Isiewu for 8k this December? Should I say it was less expensive? Anyways, I had the best time that night before I joined in the celebration. We took pictures and left for the 8-mile junction where we were based and slept in anticipation of the big event the next day.

The Induction Morning

I woke up with my mom and we tried our best to prepare for the induction in time as it was slated to commence by dot 9am. We had our breakfast that morning and left for 8 miles Junction where we were told to board a vehicle from. I was in my blue suit with white shirt and a red tie. People thought I was the celebrant, but I wasn't. My mom and I were on matching outfits and she was just so happy to be in that school to see her daughter.

On getting to 8 miles Junction, we boarded a vehicle to Army Junction and from Army Junction, we boarded another vehicle to stadium road which is Unical main gate. **The school was as busy as usual and we took a shuttle bus from the gate to the event centre held at Godswill Conference Centre. The driver charged us #100 naira each for the ride.

The event has already started as we were 5 minutes late. It felt so good to see the inductees in blue graduation gowns. It was my mother's delight to know that her child was among the 122 students to be inducted into the medical field. I've never been to a hall that's so comfortable with standard air-conditioners and fans blowing as if they are paid to do so.

I never felt so confident. I joined them in singing the school's anthem. My sister taught me this anthem in her 100 level and I sang it as if I was a fellow inductee. You need to see the way the ushers treated me. They kept asking me if I was an inductee and that I should go to the front and sit with my colleagues. I was treated as a dignitary. I listened carefully as the lecture was given by the Head of department.

He acknowledged that this set was the best and awards were given to the best graduating students. I learnt a lot from his lecture. He even brought up a theme about Ai and Radiography and how they correlated. I felt timid when the inductees were told to say their pledge. Goosebumps just revolved around me like a baby. For the first time an induction ended in an hour. On a norms, federal universities usually spend time in their activities, but this one didn't. They started in time and ended quite in time.

Procession of the Inductees and Moments with Friends

After the induction ceremony, the inductees matched out in a grand style to meet their parents and loved ones. I was so happy to see my sister in her grandeur, beautifully dressed with her stunning makeover. Her friends were beautifully dressed too and they wore beautiful smiles on their faces. My mom expressed her joy in action. She couldn't contain her joy.

We had lots of friends and well-wishers who came to celebrate in her joy. I used this medium to advertise my work. I'm a mobile photographer by profession and all I did was oppress those hired photographers who just came to snap but can't give their clients photographic positions and swags. Most of them learnt from me that day and a few collected my number after asking me if I was a model.

I create clients for myself that day and they served as a huge connection for me. I got gifts and food items for snapping these inductees and my cousin surprised us by turning up even though he was late for the event. We took pictures with him. We also took family pictures as my dad was present. This is the first graduate in our family and her parents were proud that their money didn't go to waste.

Leaving the School for the After Party

We were invited to attend the after-party reception of a few inductees which my sister was inclusive. They gave us their preferred location and we left the school to the place. I met my student on my way out of the school. He's a student in the university and I was just so happy to see him. I didn't know him in person as we've been chatting online. I extended the invitation to him and we went and enjoyed ourselves. These are a few clips of what happened during the reception. I didn't fail to advertise my business there.

Taking a walk down town

After the reception was over, I decided to stroll out with my student to see if the streets of Calabar before going back to my place of residence. We used Google maps to guide our movements as we wanted to see all the beautiful streets and trenches in Calabar. With Google Maps, we were able to locate Cold Stone where I purchased a cup of ice-cream for both of us. It was the vanilla flavour with fillings that I choose. I purchased it for;

I then gave him transport fare back to his apartment since we went separate ways. It was quite amusing to see how Google Maps guided us. This is a picture of me enjoying my ice-cream. It has been ages since I had a taste of this.

Leaving Calabar for Uyo

The following day, we left headed to the park where we can board a bus to Uyo. We waited for close to an hour before the Bus was filled for us to hop in with our goods. We left Calabar and arrived Uyo safely through dusty routes. This is the diary of a Nigerian Steemian who left his hometown with his parents to celebrate his sister who got inducted into medical radiography.
