Unfortunately, the fact that I have little time lately because I am very busy at work, I did not have this summer and could share with you my excursion on Monte Cengio, a really important place in Italy because it is considered a sacred area because here unfortunately one of the most atrocious wars that affected both Italy and Europe took place, which is the First World War.
Fortunately, now, this place has become an important place for excursions from where you can see a beautiful panorama and indeed a place that could become very interesting for people visiting Asiago, a famous mountain village that is known practically throughout the world.

This is not only a great and interesting route for walkers and hikers, but it is practically an open-air museum. In fact, here there is a sacred monumental area where at the top there is a large cross and a commemorative monument dedicated to the Sardinian Grenadiers who fell in this place in 1916. Above all, the route is very interesting because it winds through trenches that were dug by these Grenadiers and therefore in some way they make us relive the tragic experience of the war.

It's not a very easy route, I'd say it's not suitable for everyone. You have to be quite fit and also be quite careful because there are some very exposed points, but let's say it's very beautiful because you go back in history even if a part of the route has been made safe specifically for visiting it and you have impressive views over the entire Val d'Astico but also over the part of the Asiago plateau and other parts of the Veneto, so if you get a nice day you can also see a beautiful panorama.

Up at the top, after having walked part of this circular tour of about 5 km which takes you about 2 hours of walking, there is a sort of votive church dedicated to the Grenadiers of Sardinia where there are some frescoes in some decorations which recall the fighting which unfortunately took place there.

Unfortunately, we always hope that these places are a little memory for the atrocities that happened in the past, where unfortunately young people lost their lives and are remembered here in these places, but unfortunately this fails to make human beings understand anything.

I'm very passionate about history, and I love coming to these places because I can combine nature, physical activity, and the history that exists in these places, which must be remembered. I hope my photos were interesting, and I'll see you soon.
