The Origin Point

in Traveling Steem2 days ago (edited)

A heartfelt greeting to all my Steemit friends,

As I've mentioned in many of my posts, I am a storyteller, a traveler, a critic, a motivator, a businessman, and a family man. Despite my many roles, I find great joy in learning and understanding new things and then sharing my thoughts with others through writing. This is why I often write about specific places in my city, and these habits of learning, exploring, and understanding are what make me a "👀 🧐 🕵🏻♂️ 🔍 🔭 👁️".

one.jfif

My city is an old city with historical significance, full of many unique features and mysteries. In this context, I am sharing information about an old historical place in my city, Meerut, India: Suraj Kund, which was an ancient sacred pond. Its history dates back to the 10th century.

ewo.jfif

I would also like to explain in this post why this place is a personal point of origin for me. There's a story connected to it that I cherish and that is an important part of my life. When I got married, I didn't know much about this place. My family lived in a different part of the city, but coincidentally, I married a girl who lived near this park. Her house was only about 250 meters from the park. So, whenever I dropped her off or picked her up from her house, I would automatically see Suraj Kund, which has now been transformed into Suraj Kund Park.

This pond was built in the 10th century by Raja Suraj Pal. This pond and the nearby Manohar Nath Temple and Mansa Devi Temple hold religious and historical significance for Hindus.

The purpose of its construction at that time was to provide the city with a reliable source of water. At that time, it was filled with water from the Ganges Canal.

I saw this place with my own eyes as a pond in 1980. Later, a lot of large tube wells were needed to fill this pond with water, and a lot of government money was wasted on it. Furthermore, many engineers were unable to understand the mystery of the water draining from certain parts of the pond underground, as it would begin to empty as soon as it was filled.

Therefore, the local administration decided to transform this large pond into a spacious park. There is no other place in the heart of the city where people can stroll, enjoy fresh air, and exercise. Although our city has several gardens and parks, due to its historical and religious significance and its central location, thousands of people visit it every morning and evening. The park is managed by the municipal corporation. Nowadays, this park has become a popular spot for recreational activities, walks, and picnics.

Currently, several street food stalls have been set up on the roads near the main gate of this park. These stalls offer delicious and high-quality food at very affordable prices, and people who cannot afford expensive meals at large hotels and restaurants come here to enjoy street food with their families.

You are welcome

Your writing is very appreciative. You have beautifully described the historical significance of Suraj Kund. Your personal memories associated with it. This not only makes the reader feel the antiquity and spirituality of the place. It also connects them to an important aspect of your life. Seeing a place as a “starting point” and presenting it in a way that is connected to emotions, memories and history is a testament to your keen observational skills and storytelling. The combination of images, personal experiences and historical facts makes this writing more effective and forces the reader to think that in every city there are some places that become a part of our identity and memories.

Agradecemos tu amable comentario.

The riverbank is a truly enchanting place. I also like to spend time on the riverbank when I have time. And here, my mind actually feels good. To be honest, you can actually enjoy the natural environment here.

Thank you for your participation in Geo-Quest Mystery – Week 1: The Origin Point. Here is an evaluation of the post by @sur-riti, following the official Week 1 rubric for Geo-Quest Mystery.

Evaluation Summary

CriteriaScoreComments
1. SteemAtlas Pin & Description0.9 / 1.5The post mentions an “Atlas pin” and includes map/video references, but in the provided content the actual SteemAtlas pin code/coordinates are not shown clearly. For full points, the post must display the SteemAtlas pin in the standard format with coordinates and a clear location line (city + country).
2. Creativity of Mission & Hidden Clue1.5 / 2.0The Origin Point is meaningful and personal (marriage connection + repeated visits), and the emoji-based identity hint is creative. However, the clue appears fairly easy to detect based on comments, so it loses some “mystery” subtlety.
3. Speem.watch Proof Video1.0 / 2.0The post mentions a “speem link,” but the actual Speem.watch link is not visible in the text provided here. For full points, the Speem.watch link must be clearly included and the video should contain a direct “starting point” message while showing recognizable markers of the place.
4. Storytelling Quality1.7 / 2.0Good structure and tone: you combine personal memory with historical context (10th-century pond → park transformation). Some sections could be tightened and made more “explorer-focused” (what you observe on-site today, in your own voice).
5. Photos Quality & Authenticity1.5 / 1.5Clear statement that all photos are your own, and the images support the narrative and place well.
6. Engagement (Comments / Clue Guessing)0.9 / 1.0Engagement is present, and based on your note, the participant commented on two other entries. Full marks would require the comments to include explicit clue guesses for at least two participants (only one is confirmed here).

Final Score: 7.5 / 10

Remarks:
This post has strong potential thanks to the mix of local history + personal life connection. To be fully competitive under the Week 1 rules, the biggest fixes are technical clarity: show the SteemAtlas pin code/coordinates clearly and include the Speem.watch link clearly. Improving these two items alone can raise the score significantly.
