Hello good people of Steemit!

It's nice to be here once again. I love purple 💜 colour generally and especially purple flowers. So I just couldn't resist this contest. I'll be presenting to you my favorite purple flower, the invasive Kings Mantle, by name Bush Clockvine. It's scientific name is Thunbergia Erecta. This adorable plant was named after Carl Peter Thunberg (1743–1828), a Swedish naturalist, explorer and pupil of Linnaeus; erecta is from the Latin erectus, alluding to the plants upright growth orientation. I have a stand of this beautiful flower in my compound. Though the heavy rains is not allowing it blossom during this period as you can see the plant in the image below, it thrives and flowers all summer, giving a lush green brush and plenty purple flowers with their signature yellow highlights in the middle of the petals and underbelly, the stalk. When it is in its full bloom, it adds so much beauty to the environment.

More than just a flower

The Bush Clockvine, also know as the King's Mantle is more than just a flower for ornamental use. It is a very potent herb uses in the treatment of many infectious disease endemic to eastern and tropical regions of Africa. For as long as it's been known to man, this flower has been used in African traditional medicine for the treatment of such infections as fevers, cough, inflammation, diarrhea, and numerous bacterial and fungal infections. A word of caution though would be in order. Do not hurry into self medication when feeling sick. Do not boil and drink this plant just because you heard @nsisong99 report historical usage in folk medicine for the treatment of various infections. See a trained healthcare agent for your symptoms to be properly assessed and appropriate treatment recommended.

If your healthcare agent recommends the use of Bush Clockvine, that would be interesting and you have nothing to fear. But do not self medicate. Not much is known about its side effects, dosage and contraindications. So, it's better to be safe than sorry!

Conclusion

I recommend you find and cultivate this flower for its ornamental value. You can plant it through normal propagation techniques and it could use some organic manure to thrive well. You can grow it in a flower pot or grow them around patios, foundations of structures or among border plantings. The dense foliage makes a beautiful greenery of low hedge row for the border. In caring for the plant, you find it useful to prune it regularly to desired shape and height. It will form a creeping mound if left untrimmed. Remember it's an invasive specie, so needs regular pruning to maintain shape and beauty.

Many thanks to @eliany and steemphotos community for hosting this contest. Wishing all participants the best and looking forward to their own posts so I learn about more purple flowers. I want to invite @ddwosky @benton3 and @ubongudofot to join this contest.
