Steempoll Update | Moving Towards A Better Product Fit

in Steemit Dev Group2 years ago

Hey guys. So, I spent a lot of time thinking about the current position of SteemPoll in this ecosystem. Clearly, there isn't a lot of demand(literally 0😅) for it at this moment. So, I feel, it's time for me to pivot from making it just a polling application. Rather, I now plan on building on top of the polling feature to convert it into a fully blown Steem front-end alternative.

Why pushed me to make this decision?

Well, I pretty much did 0 marketing on any of my tools of DApp. steemcryptic seems to have found its use case in this ecosystem. So, I let my ego get in the way and assumed that steempoll would also be the same. Clearly, that has not been the case as far as steempoll is concerned.

So, looking at the new DApp fail does get your motivation down a lot! So, as an obvious way out, I turned to podcasts to get the motivation back to continue to build on top of Steempoll.

This is when I came across the Quest podcast by Justin Kan. The clear problem that I never considered was that I never spoke to the potential users before I created SteemPoll. Additionally, another episode in this podcast stressed learning to pivot when something is clearly not a market fit.

So, I am not convinced that moving towards a multi-purpose frontend for Steem would be the way to go forward. I would be starting this process over the next couple of weeks. Probably might just start up with a fully revamped login system which is a whole lot more secure than the one I have implemented on SteemPoll right now.

Bottom Line:

I would now be scrapping off the current roadmap that I had initially planned for SteemPoll and revamping the entire platform. The platform would still be able to create polls. However, with the added ability to do a whole lot more than just create polls.

Sort:

Just to give you a small update, steempoll is a polling application built on top of the steam blockchain. So, you would be able to create polls and cast votes for the same. You can check it out by heading over to https://www.steempoll.tech

Ok entiendo estaré viendo la aplicación ahora mismo amigo.

Does anyone talk to anyone on Steemit.com? If it has been abandoned, don't you think that a new site should be created the way Busy.org was created? You, @steemchiller, and the rest of the Steemit Dev Group talk to each other so will have a better perspective of what is going on. I just learned today that Justin Sun is no longer the CEO of Tron.

Just tell me if I am out to lunch. I won't devote any more time on the subject. I have taken small businesses to make annual earnings of $50 million. If this is my last hurray, I would like it to top $1 Billion.

The engagement has definitely gone down. However, we are in touch with other devs even on discord. Some of us are working on some really cool stuff as well. Not sure how many of those would materialize. But, someone's gotta do something right?

Could you find out the actual numbers? We could discuss this on Discord, but I would like to have a record of this conversation, so it is above board.

I post on Steem instead of Hive because I have established friendships here, and I like most of the people's ethos. Despite Ned's shortcomings, while he was the face of Steem, he had a vision. I am not sure there has been the same leadership since.

I applaud the efforts behind #club5050, #club70, and #club100. I applaud the efforts of those developing new applications. We are missing an opportunity, though. We have people living in or close to some of the hotspots in the world. We could be publishing articles by these people in a way that would increase their prestige and the prestige of the Steem Environment as a whole. Instead of competing with Facebook, we might position some Steem Community to compete with Reuters.

Reuters is an international news organization owned by Thomson Reuters. It employs around 2,500 journalists and 600 photojournalists in about 200 locations worldwide. Reuters is one of the largest news agencies in the world.

Last year Reuters had $6.348 in Gross Revenue. Do we have 2500 Steemians in 200 locations around the world? We might facilitate the sale of content to Reuters for those Steemians. How valuable would Steem be if some fraction of $250 million of it was purchased every year? How many Devs are there? How good could Steem become if they were paid over $100k per year?

At this point, this is all conjecture/vapourware. How interesting would it be if a proof of life post (ie. the first post of the day) would be $3 more than the daily salary in Nigeria.

Please mention this to other Devs and Witnesses and ask if they would be interested if I came up with a Business Plan and a checklist of things we might need to put this proposition into play.

PS It has been years since I exchanged messages with Roger Ver. If done properly he might be interested.

You could share this over in things-to-share channel. I'm sure many there would be interested

Should you remove the discord link? I've posted and will see if anyone messages me.
