Yesterday's actifitivity.

After a few days without really going into the forest it was about time to catch up with that. The weather wasn't too rainy and so I got to enjoy a lengthy afternoon walk into the woods.

As luck would have it, I came across another one of those "flaky stemmed witch porelings" which is a literal translation of the german name of this dotted stem bolete.

It doesn't look like much from the top and it can be kind of hard to spot. Its name starts making sense when looking at the stem and underside.

I think "flaky" is already a much better descriptor than "dotted" and the intense red do make it look a bit bewitching, too.

The real magic, though, starts when you cut or break it in half and the flesh starts turning blue withing just a few seconds.

I featured one of those in a previous report where I kept it kind of open ended as a call-for-engagement to talk about it's toxicity but that didn't spark any comments at all. So here it is, despite it's spooky name and eerie colours, this is an edible mushroom!

Not so much these sulfur tufts overgrowing the mossy stump below. Those are only nice too look at.
