My Actifit Report Card: February 8 2026
We changed up our routine with a nice day trip up to Flagstaff for a long hike up the Mesa at the edge of the city to visit the historic Lowell Observatory on a beautiful Sunday morning.

The snowfall has been extremely light so far this winter (which isn't good as the dry conditions this summer means wildfires) and the mountains have very little snow cover. The trails up Mars Mesa were dry and clear and the forest beautiful in the sunlight.

The initial mile was the easy climb on a forest service road before we started a serious climb up the Mesa trail. Lulu loves this place as would often go up the sides of the trail to check out places where she had seen squirrels or rabbits in the past (and to mark her spots).
Then it was a steep climb as the trail turned up towards to top of the Mesa. Although I was panting after a half mile of the climb my legs felt good and the path finally leveled off and we could hike along much easier.
There were several people walking so Lulu was happy for the attention.

It was uneasy hike the rest of the way until it was time for a rest and drink of water for us all.
Then it was time for the welcome trek back DOWN the hill along a dis-used service road that was a bit rough but easily walked and it was a nice change in the scenery.
We rejoined the main trail about halfway down the Mesa and from there it was down along familiar path to the lush park in town.
