[ESP | ENG] ¿Cómo fue estudiar enfermería en Venezuela? / What was it like to study nursing in Venezuela?

Cuando decidí estudiar enfermería fue en el año del 2017, cuando quedé seleccionada dentro de la universidad con elección entre los primeros cupos. Al principio fue una decisión muy difícil pues apenas tenía 17 años y no contaba con la madurez necesaria para poder aclarar mis dudas e ideas acerca de lo que quería para mi futuro, por otro lado no tenía nada planeado así que decidí estudiar enfermería en la universidad donde me quedó cupo.

When I decided to study nursing it was in 2017, when I was selected within the university with a choice among the first places. At first it was a very difficult decision because I was only 17 years old and did not have the necessary maturity to be able to clarify my doubts and ideas about what I wanted for my future, on the other hand I had nothing planned so I decided to study nursing at the university where it fit me.

El primer semestre fue muy divertido ya que descubrí acerca de la carrera y como ésta se compone, hice nuevas amistades y aprendí a conocer el mundo con otros ojos ya que me tocó salir del nido y comenzar a salir de mi hogar para hacer mi propia vida poco a poco. Con referencia a lo anterior, me sentía un tanto angustiada porque a pesar de seguir estudiando no me apasionaba lo que estaba haciendo y por consiguiente no tenía vocación, me preocupaba estudiar algo que no me gustase y terminar frustrada.

The first semester was a lot of fun since I discovered about the career and how it is composed, I made new friends and I learned to know the world with different eyes since I had to leave the nest and start leaving my home to make my own life slowly. With reference to the above, I felt somewhat anguished because despite continuing to study I was not passionate about what I was doing and therefore I had no vocation, I was worried about studying something that I did not like and ending up frustrated.

Todo eso cambió a final del segundo semestre, donde pude entrar por primera vez a sala de partos y atender a un recién nacido, donde realicé los cuidados de enfermería paso por paso y pude ver ese amor y cariño a la carrera que estaba estudiando, es allí donde me dí cuenta que sí quería ser enfermera y que vale la pena todo el estudio y dedicación que estaba empleando en ese momento para llegar a donde estoy hoy en día.

All that changed at the end of the second semester, where I was able to enter the delivery room for the first time and take care of a newborn, where I performed the nursing care step by step and I could see that love and affection for the career I was studying, it is there where I realized that I did want to be a nurse and that it was worth all the study and dedication that I was using at that time to get to where I am today.

El poder ayudar a otras personas que requieren de ti, por más pequeño que sea... Es una forma de hacer mejor el mundo.

Being able to help other people who need you, no matter how small ... It is a way of making the world better.

Para comienzo del tercer semestre la situación del país se volvió sumamente complicada, pues comenzaron los primeros problemas con las instalaciones eléctricas y por consiguiente habían fallas en muchos estados incluyendo Barquisimeto (donde vivo), todos los trabajos eran realizados bajo mucho estrés pues no se tenía donde investigar de forma adecuada ya que al no haber suministro de luz evidentemente no se podía navegar por Internet. Por otro lado teníamos el problema del transporte con respecto a la escasez de gasolina por lo que muchas veces me tocó caminar desde la universidad hasta mi casa y viceversa...

By the beginning of the third semester the situation in the country became extremely complicated, since the first problems with electrical installations began and consequently there were failures in many states including Barquisimeto (where I live), all the works were carried out under a lot of stress because there was no where to investigate adequately since, as there was no electricity supply, obviously it was not possible to navigate the Internet. On the other hand, we had the transportation problem with respect to the gasoline shortage, so many times I had to walk from the university to my house and vice versa ...

A pesar de las adversidades dentro del país, no me dí por vencida y lastimosamente tuve que adaptarme a la situación en donde muchas veces me tocó estudiar junto a una vela en la oscuridad para presentar un parcial al día siguiente. Esto demuestra que quien quiere hacer algo lo hará a pesar de todas las complicaciones que se le pueden llegar a presentar durante el camino.

Despite the adversities within the country, I did not give up and unfortunately I had to adapt to the situation where many times I had to study next to a candle in the dark to present a partial the next day. This shows that whoever wants to do something will do it despite all the complications that may arise along the way.

Para el cuarto y quinto semestre fue un poco más relajado, tenía menos carga académica y tiempo más libre para estudiar de manera más calmada, a su vez los problemas en el país se iban solucionando poco a poco y hoy en día espero mi título universitario como técnico superior en enfermería.

For the fourth and fifth semester it was a little more relaxed, I had less academic load and more free time to study in a calmer way, in turn the problems in the country were being solved little by little and today I am looking forward to my university degree as senior nursing technician.
