Sowing Mercy As A Seed

Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy

This is an actual statement that was culled from the holy scripture and has a deep meaning. Everyone, at some point in their lives, have gone against rules and regulation and may have contravened the law but they got second chance. If you have ever gotten a second chance, then it will be human to extend second chances to others.

There are times you will realize that some corrections can be better passed by showing mercy than by dishing out judgment on the spot. This is because some "errors" that should should be faced with judgement may have been committed to save a greater evil from occurring or to cushion the effect of an impending evil. So try to look beyond the immediate actions and focus more on the intention.

Some actions may not appear right but may have right intentions. The case of one of my friends buttresses this point. He got into trouble for bashing a police vehicle parked along the road. Well, looking at the action, he was wrong but the intention suggested otherwise, and judging him based on his actions will be heavily unfair.

Here's the intention behind the action: He was returning from work and was driving down an ally which culminated in a busy roadside mini-market. Suddenly, he discovered that he had lost his breaks and his vehicle was on free-descent. All trials to stop the vehicle seemed futile and to worsen the matter, he was approaching the mini-market.

By the time he was almost close to the end, people were crossing the road, so to save the impending catastrophe, he had to swerve to the right even at the thought of losing his own life to save others, but luckily for him, there was a police vehicle by that side of the road to break the descent. Both cars were heavily damaged but people's lives were saved.

You see, without listening to the intentions and how his action was to save the lives of others, you will misjudge him. It is not every time that judgment should follow mistakes. First try to fix yourself in the person's shoes and see if you can walk 1kilometre in their shoes. The seed of mercy you sow today has a way of coming back to favour you.

Imagine if my friend had run into the market, the catastrophe would have been much. Humorously enough, it was later discovered that the police officer that parked the vehicle went inside the same market. He would have been affected by the impact too. His car was damaged in lieu of his own life. Now which one is better: life or car?

We all appreciate when mercy is shown to us right? However, the question is "how many people have enjoyed your own mercy?" Think about this and you will see the need for mercy.
