The Diary Game [20/03/2026] // Public holiday, Festive Vibes and Simple Joys.

Hi guys, accept special Steem greetings from the motherland of Cameroon, and welcome to my blog, where I share lifestyle content with you all.

Today felt like one of those rare, beautiful pauses in the rush of life, a public holiday that carried both celebration and quiet productivity. As a mother of three, I woke up early, even before the sun had fully stretched across the sky, determined to make the most of the day.

The air already carried a festive mood as our Muslim brothers and sisters celebrated the Feast of the Ram, and even from a distance, you could feel the joy of children in new clothes, the aroma of grilled meat drifting through the neighbourhood, and cheerful greetings exchanged from compound to compound. Though I am not Muslim, I have always appreciated how such moments bring us together as a community. I made sure to send warm wishes to my neighbours before settling into my own plans for the day.

With the children still asleep, I began my morning routine. A public holiday is the perfect opportunity to restore order in the house, and I took full advantage of it. I swept every corner, rearranged the sitting room, dusted the shelves, and even tackled those forgotten spaces behind furniture. There is something deeply satisfying about seeing your home sparkle, it brings a sense of peace that no amount of rest alone can give.

By the time the children woke up, the house was already alive with the comforting smell of breakfast. I had prepared pap and accra beans, a combination they never get tired of. Moments like these remind me that happiness is often found in the simplest routines, warm food, shared laughter, and the presence of loved ones.

After breakfast, I turned my attention to the highlight of the day, preparing ekwang for lunch. It is not the quickest meal to make, but it is certainly one of the most rewarding. I carefully grated the cocoyams, wrapped the mixture in tender leaves, and set it to cook slowly with palm oil, crayfish, and smoked fish. The rich aroma gradually filled the house, drawing the children in and out of the kitchen with curious eyes and impatient questions.

Cooking ekwang requires patience, and as it simmered, I found myself reflecting on my own childhood, watching my mother prepare the same dish with such skill and pride. Today, I carry that tradition forward, passing it on to my children, one meal at a time. By early afternoon, the dish was ready, thick, flavorful, and deeply satisfying. We ate together, appreciating every bite, and I could see the contentment on their faces.

The afternoon passed gently, with the children playing and the neighbourhood still buzzing from the celebrations. There was a sense of unity in the air, different beliefs, yet shared joy. It reminded me how beautiful our country is in its diversity.

As evening approached, the mood shifted from calm to excitement. It was time for football, something we all look forward to. We gathered around the television to watch the Premier League match between Manchester United and Bournemouth. The children picked their sides, arguments started playfully, and the living room turned into a small stadium filled with cheers, groans, and laughter.

For those ninety minutes, nothing else mattered. Every pass, every near goal, every decision by the referee sparked reactions from all of us. It was the perfect way to end the day with family together, engaged, and joyful.

Now, as I sit quietly reflecting on the day, I feel grateful. Grateful for the strength to care for my family, for the traditions that keep us rooted, and for the simple pleasures that make life meaningful. Today was not extraordinary in a grand way, but in the small, intentional moments, it was truly special. Until my next diary session guys, happy feast for all Muslims on this platform.

Good evening @chant, onenof the best writers in this community. I found all your posts interesting and your consistency at this level having reached this milestone in Steemit. People like you give us hope to remain consistent.

Your narratives about the holiday and the feast of Ram is what every public servant will celebrate. Every holiday brings a relief. At least sleep well and rest or have time to do domestic duties.

This delicacy called "ekwang" in your dialect is the same with Nigeria delicacy that is common amongst the Efik and Ibibio tribe (Cross River State and Akwa Ibom). It is called "Ekpang" in our dialect. One of the most treasured native food that takes a bit of processes to prepare.

The premier league match between Bournemouth and Manchester United was a complete cheat on Manchester United. It was like robbing peter to pay paul. The same offense that penalty was waved at was what sent Harry Maguire off. It is either the game was rigged or they intentionally wanted Manchester United to lose or draw the match.

Let me wait to read your next diary game.
