Happy weekend and season's greetings; may the peace of this season be your portion in Jesus Christ's name. AMEN21X It was a sad day to begin, but realising that God knows all, I allowed myself to find some peace and comfort in God.

On Our Way to the Burial

19th December, 2025, was fixed for the burial of one of our colleagues who died in early November. A type of death we can't explain or question God. He was sick on Wednesday and died on Thursday of that week. Since then, somebody like me couldn't believe that the man was gone until I saw his corpse lowered to the earth and covered.

I prepared earlier and went to our headquarters, where the bus would move at 9am to Ikot Ebom in the Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State. It's been a while since I attended a burial as teary as it was today. The man left two children under 7 years old for each of them and a young wife who has become a widow suddenly.

No amount of tears could bring the deceased back to life; at last he was interred and buried. Life goes on; everyone left the burial ground.

	Foundation-laying

Those who were able to eat ate, but one of my colleagues and I went for another assignment to perform a foundation-laying ceremony for a family member who came back home to build on his father's land. This was done in under 10 minutes, and we went home to prepare for an evening programme in the church.

At home, while I was relaxing and peeling melon seeds for cooking after sipping cassava flakes with chill water for the hot afternoon, I turned on the television to channel news for updates concerning Nigeria. On the whole, our President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was there to present the 2026 budget tagged “The Budget of Consolidation”. The President assured the nation in the National Assembly that there will be no 3 projects running in one inflow. He further assured the house that by 31st March 2026, all the projects left will be fully funded to completion. From the speech delivered by the President, the budget of 2026 will, apart from consolidation, improve businesses and promote job creation in the country. He mentioned the new tax as circulated online in recent weeks while still prioritising tackling insecurity.

I join the general to call for deeper and deliberate scrutiny of the budget before its implementation. How is inflation reduced from 34% to 16% and a common man still cannot buy things in the market? Has not the price of transportation changed? The National Assembly should not make the mistake of politicising this budget as appropriated.

Every year defence will take a high percentage of the budget, yet we suffer the worst insecurity in this country. We are not fighting with another country; within us we cannot handle the banditry, kidnapping, terrorism and others. We need people with a good heart for the country, not politicians of no conscience.

Revival Programme

Around 5:17pm, we went to church for the end-of-year revival. It had a rewarding time in the presence of God. The theme “All Things are Possible” was simplified by the preacher, touching the hearts of the congregants to trust God for possible results no matter how difficult their situation may be.

After the service my family and I decided to delay going home and had a view of the Christmas decorations done opposite the church premises. My son was enjoying the lighting and the toy shapes around the place. After a few moments, we left and got home to rest.
