Today began on a peaceful note as I joined my family for our morning worship. The worship had set a positive tone for everything that followed today and reminded me to approach the day with gratitude. Since I wasn't leaving for school immediately, I had enough time to complete my morning chores without rushing. It felt good getting things done early and having my environment in order before stepping out. I even found some extra time to prepare breakfast for myself. Afterward, I took a refreshing shower, got ready for school, and enjoyed my meal before heading out.

As usual, I decided to trek to school. The walk gave me time to gather my thoughts and mentally prepare for the day's activities. Thankfully, I arrived shortly before my first lecture began. One of the highlights of my day was attending a lecture on "Microbial Ecology and Ecotoxicology". I was genuinely excited about this class because it opened my mind to several important concepts. Microbial ecology focuses on how microorganisms interact with one another and with their environment, while ecotoxicology studies the effects of toxic substances and pollutants on living organisms and ecosystems.

The lecture was very interesting because it connected these concepts to our everyday lives, especially through the foods we consume. We discussed how microorganisms interact with food systems and how certain chemicals introduced into the environment can eventually find their way into the food chain. The class also touched on concerns surrounding modern food production practices, including genetically modified foods and the long-term health debates associated with them. Beyond the discussions, what I appreciated most was learning practical ways to reduce exposure to potentially harmful substances and make wiser food choices. I was literally thinking differently about the world around me after that class.

After the lecture, we proceeded to our Industrial Microbiology practical. As expected, it was both engaging and educational.

I worked on these

Once the general practical was over, I moved straight to my personal laboratory work. Since I was already suited up in my lab coat and gloves, I wasted no time getting started. I had several microbial isolates to work on. Some needed culturing, others required subculturing, and a few had to be properly stocked for future use.

The working process

Each task demanded attention and precision, so I tackled them one at a time. Part of my work involved performing a serial dilution, a technique used to gradually reduce the concentration of microorganisms in a sample so that countable colonies can be obtained on culture plates. After achieving the appropriate dilution factors, I inoculated my media and carefully arranged everything for incubation.

Work continues

The lab was quite busy, but I enjoyed every moment of it. Whenever I completed a task and had some free time, I assisted some of my colleagues with theirs. It felt good being able to help out and ensure everyone made progress with their work. After several productive hours in the laboratory, we finally wrapped up. We packed our materials, washed and cleaned all the equipment we had used, and left the laboratory in good condition.

The day wasn't over yet tho. Together with my fellow project students, we met with our supervisor to discuss our research progress. We presented updates on our work, and he carefully reviewed everything. As expected, he pointed out a few areas that needed corrections and gave us valuable guidance on how to improve. Before dismissing us, he encouraged us to prepare for some reading and further work tomorrow. With that, we all went our separate ways.

While heading home, I stumbled upon fresh rabbit leaves growing along the roadside. Despite being tired and eager to get home, I couldn't pass up the opportunity. My rabbits would certainly appreciate the fresh greens, so I stopped for a while to cut some. After gathering enough, I snapped a quick picture to capture the moment as you can see below before continuing my journey.

On my way home

The moment I arrived home I fed my rabbit immediately. Afterward, I finally took a shower to wash away the stress and dust of the day. To my delight, Mom had already prepared dinner. Nothing feels better than coming home after a long day to a ready meal. I settled down and enjoyed my food.

Overall, it was a fulfilling day filled with productivity, and small moments of joy.

Goodnight people 🌸
