Cooking my impromptu stew

in Steem Cameroonlast month

On Thursday morning of the 13th of November, I had woken up with a craving for a warm, comforting bowl of white soup. I had all the ingredients ready - fresh fish, meat, and vegetables which I preserved for stew on Sunday morning. But, as fate would have it, the epileptic electricity in my area had other plans.

As I began to prepare for cooking the white soup, the power went out, information circulating had it that it was a transformer issue. I sighed in frustration, knowing that the blackout could last for days, or even weeks. My initial plan was to cook stew on Sunday morning, but with the fresh ingredients already thawed and ready to use, I couldn't afford to wait. The thought of losing my precious fish and meat to spoilage was unbearable. I had preserved them in the refrigerator, but with the power out, I knew it was only a matter of time before they went bad. My generator wasn't in good condition, and I couldn't rely on it to power my fridge.

In a split second, I made a decision. I would cook the stew that day, Thursday, instead of waiting for Sunday. It wasn't part of my initial plan, but necessity had become the mother of invention.

As I lit the cooking gas and began to chop the onions and tomatoes, the aroma of sizzling meat and fish filled the air. The sound of sizzling and simmering was music to my ears, and my stomach growled in anticipation. Two days of blackout couldn't dampen my spirits as I savoured the delicious stew.

Rice and stew was a meal that was meant for Sunday, but it ended up being a Thursday treat. And as I took my first bite, I knew that sometimes, the best things in life are the ones we don't plan for. The stew was a hit, and I enjoyed every last drop of it.

It was a reminder that even in the midst of uncertainty and disruption, we can find joy and satisfaction in the simple things. And as I looked forward to the rest of the day, I knew that this impromptu meal would be a memory I would cherish for a long time to come.
