THE DIARY GAME:(23/06/2026):A LESS BUSY DAY AND READING A BOOK TITLED "DREAM COUNTS"
Hello my fellow steemit family, welcome to another episode of how I spent my day.Though didn't have much to do today since it's my off day at work so I decided to rest at home without going outside so I could regain my energy since I have been working for the past weeks.
I woke up early as usual and did my normal house chores cause I don't like a dirty environment though. After doing the house chores,I grabbed my phone and was playing a game and suddenly I looked at my bookshelf and saw an eye catching book titled 'Dream counts". I stood up and dropped my phone and looked into the book cause I just felt it will be an awesome book to read and learn.
I read the book without break and the more I read it was drawing my spirit and soul into the book cause there are some memorable words and facts being mentioned in the book by the author . Something hooked me about the book though, the book moves between Nigeria, America and Guinea but the book never feels scattered . It feels like sitting with four brilliant women who are done pretending . Every chapter peeled back another layer of what these women weren't saying out loud before.
Other keywords that kept jumping out:
Love – not the fairytale kind. The messy, inconvenient, “why am I still texting him” kind.
Motherhood – especially Zikora’s story. The pressure, the biology, the choice, and how lonely it can get even when you’re surrounded by people.
Friendship – Chiamaka and Zikora’s bond felt like the spine of the book. That kind of loyalty where you can call someone at 2am.
Pandemic – the way Covid isolated everyone but also forced conversations we’d been avoiding.
Desire vs expectation – Omelogor wrestling with what she wants versus what a “successful Nigerian woman” should want.
America – not as a dream, but as a place that asks you to shrink or explain yourself daily.
Counting – the title isn’t random. The characters are all counting something: losses, years, regrets, dreams they deferred.
Though I wasn't done with reading the book,I actually learnt a lot of things about life and how we can navigate through it.It was getting dark though and I felt hungry and decided to close the book so I can look for something to eat
That was how my day went at home, doing nothing and reading a very educative book.
