The Trickster - Score

in DTube4 years ago (edited)

This piece tells the redemption arc of a Trickster archetype. In human cultures there are often trickster deities that exist in lore. As their mischievous and deceitful characteristics are not ideal traits, it appears that they usually are forced through some sort of redemption arc. In popular culture this can be seen in movies like "Moana" with Maui helping save the oceans, in shows like "Supernatural" where one character acts as a trickster but ultimately helps the heroes, and to a lesser extent Loki in "The Avengers" where he often helps in some way.

This piece has a quirky melody and irregular time signatures for a lot of the main thematic material to portray "The Trickster". A more redeeming section is brought into the fold but the character relapses into their old habits. Despite any setbacks, this character fights through and is set on redemption, ending in a triumphant version of the redemption melody.

Although this piece was not able to be performed on March 11th due to COVID-19, the recording session a few days earlier was amazing. Boulder Altitude Directive, the ensemble, is full of great musicians and they have done an amazing job championing new music.
