Hemp group pitches plant as an economic engine for Europe in post-pandemic era
In a manifesto released on Tuesday, the European Industrial Hemp Association said the crop could deliver long-term sustainable growth and create jobs across EU rural economies as Europe and the rest of the world tries to navigate the long road to economic recovery.
- Public policies should promote hemp use in food, feed and manufactured products and finance the development of sustainable value chains.
- The contribution to the environment of the hemp plant should be recognised and the use of hemp for carbon farming encouraged.
- Member States should not apply the drug control legislations to hemp and its derived products, as long as the limits established for THC content are respected.
- The maximum THC level allowed on the field should be restored to 0.3%.
- Operators should be allowed to harvest, produce from all parts of the plant - including flowers and leaves - and market any kind of product, whilst maintaining compliance with the THC content limits.
- Hemp and hemp preparations containing a naturally occurring cannabinoid content should not be considered as novel food.
- Reasonable guidance values for THC in food and feed should be established.
- All hemp derived raw materials should be permitted as ingredients for cosmetics.
- The EU should value and promote the use of hemp fibres for the production of short and long fibre for textiles and favour the establishment of sustainable value chains
10.The use of hemp-based construction and other materials should be incentivised both in public and private sectors, with clear goals for the total or partial substitution of other less sustainable alternatives.

The Hemp Feed Coalition submitting application for hemp byproducts to be used to chicken feed, Could tak a long time to bring meaningful change to the feed market but is a step in the right direction. Hemp is very nutritious.

US group to seek approval of hemp seed meal for chickens

A US industry and policy stakeholder group is planning to submit an application in August the year to get approval for the use of hemp seed, meal and cake as protein supplements for use in the diets of layers and broiler chickens.

NCSU Researchers Wrap-Up Initial Hemp in Animal Feed Trial
2/12/2018 – In December, Prestage Department of Poultry Science researchers, Dr. Carm Parkhurst and Dr. Chris Ashwell, completed an initial study that utilized industrial hemp seed cake in poultry diets. Seed cake is the leftover residue after the seed is pressed for seed oil. Hemp seed cake as a feedstuff compares fairly closely to soybean oil meal.

The study also showed that as the amount of hemp seed cake in the feeds increased, the weights of the chicks increased significantly.
