Marathon
Marathon is a 2026 first-person multiplayer PvPvE extraction shooter developed and published by Bungie (Halo & Destiny). The fourth entry in the Marathon series, following Marathon, Marathon 2: Durandal, and Marathon Infinity. The game is set in the year 2893 on the planet Tau Ceti IV, where a once-thriving human colony has mysteriously gone silent.
Players take on the role of cybernetic mercenaries known as Runners, hired by competing factions to infiltrate the abandoned colony and recover valuable resources, data, and technology.
The narrative connects to the broader Marathon universe, including the UESC Marathon, a massive colony ship constructed from the Martian moon Deimos, which plays a central role in the setting’s lore.
Marathon was released on March 5, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. The game was directed by Joe Ziegler, with design led by Lars Bakken and Andrew Witts, art direction by Joseph Cross, and music composed by Ryan Lott.
