Is it a lack of hitting skill or a lack of power?
Our batsmen can play shots on all sides of the wicket. But what about death overs or slog overs?
As much as I see Baby ABD's big shot scoring range in Africa's U-19 team, I don't think 90% of our country's batsmen have that ability! Hitting skills are different in Slog/Death overs. How many batsmen in our country take extra time to practice for learning slog overs hitting around the field?
In the ongoing BPL, many batsmen are trying to hit a boundary in the long on/mid wicket area. If they want to hit the ball, they have decided to hit it in that region before the ball releases from the bowlers' hands, whatever the ball is. What could be the explanation for such poor batting in the present era? As a result, in many cases, the shot does not have elevation. Sometimes the launching angle of the ball is more than 60/70 degrees in the shot. Most of the time, the ball does not seem to be in the sweet spot of the bat. That is why the ball is not crossing the boundary, it is turning into a simple catch!
Do we really need power hitting to play scoring shots? How many power hitters are there in a country like India / Pakistan? Our batsmen have 34 km bat speed to hit the ball! The value of the shot is just around 40%, can you imagine! With the help of technology, the local players of the club in the IPL challenged foreign players like Miller by raising 88% in their practice of hitting shots!
It is clear that our batters need more quality practice than a power heater for big shots!
