Retro Wrestling Classic: Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steamboat — Intercontinental Title Match: WrestleMania IIIsteemCreated with Sketch.

I wanted to start highlighting different retro sports moments in this group via video and memory. So, I thought, why not start with a wrestling match from back in the day? How about the second-biggest match at WrestleMania III?

I remember this one like it was yesterday, even though I was 11 at the time, so I'll try to give a little breakdown: I still remember watching this match at one of my dad's friends' houses who had pay-per-view back in those days. It must have been on satellite, but I have no recollection of how they got it. All I know is it was a no-DQ match that was booked to settle the beef between the two. The Macho Man Randy Savage was the WWF Intercontinental Champion and was looking to defend his belt against Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat.

Savage had the upper hand for most of the match, using every little dirty trick he could to keep Steamboat down. Which didn't have the effect Savage had hoped. Steamboat didn't back down one bit (he was always one tough SOB); he threw everything he had at the champ, and just when it seemed like the Macho Man might win by pulling out a ring bell (as he had in their last match...that video is below), George "The Animal" Steele's crazy, ring-post bittin' self came down and stepped in to stop him.

In the end, Steamboat managed to pin Savage to become the NEW Intercontinental Champion! I was never that big of a Macho Man fan, so I was just fine with the 'baby-face' Steamboat winning the belt.

This rivalry wasn't quite as good as Ric Flair vs Ricky Steamboat, but it was still fun to watch at the time.

this was the golden age of wrestling for me. I rarely got to see WWF matches because my family didn't have cable. I would normally see them on VHS months later. I loved Jesse Vetura's commentary, he was so good at it and I love how he is so one-sided with his support of the baddies accusing anything good that the baby-faced do as cheating.

How disgusting was George "The Animal" Steele?

Wrestling was one of my favorite TV shows. As a child, many people used to gather in our neighborhood shop to watch wrestling matches. Because in our area, everyone did not have TV in every house. Every corner of the shop would be filled with the presence of old people, young people and small boys like us.

My favorite player was Roman Reigns. I still watch his old recorded videos.

Upvoted! Thank you for supporting witness @jswit.
