Saskatoons fueled by gray water
The Saskatoons this year is so big and juicy, they came in late so while others are on the end of their harvest we just got started a week ago.
Technically its not our Saskatoons, we are renting this property and it came with a 150 mature bushes.
this picture was part of another post where i talked about what the land looks like and how the land slopes downward from the house. Nr 9 is where the saskatoon bushes are.
I noticed when we moved here that the saskatoon bushes in the west were taller and thicker than the ones in the east. The ones closer to the house in the west more so than further downhill.
This picture was for part 2, Post where i talked about what plans we have and so on. But the reason i included it is to show you the grey water set up.
So this tube ends and the grey water from the house soaks into the ground. I noticed that the saskatoons to the left of the grey water outlet are the bigger, healthier looking ones.
Im 160 cm and they are quite a lot taller than i am
These are to my shoulder and im slightly to the right of the grey water outlet.
These are further to the right (east) and some barely to my waist. As you can see there are gaps in the rows and these saskatoon bushes are not doing so well.
My thinking is, by looking at how the land slopes - is that the good looking saskatoons are getting water from the grey water outlet. When we asked our landlords if we could set up a purifying system - the pond with cattails etc - they said that it wasnt necessary, that water goes into the ground.
I dont think they realize that they been watering their saskatoons with everything they flush down the drain..
You Canadians and your pentiful Saskatoons are making me jealous!
It's awesome that you have a landlord that's okay with you farming his place. Maybe if you explained it a bit more he'd be more okay with a pond...
Hehe sorry but they are so tasty this year! And since im picking daily they are on my mind (and hands, my fingers are permanently purple at the moment) so i just had to write.
Well, our landlords are a bit..special. The contract we signed are very extensive and detailed (if we want to change the curtains we need a written consent from her). When it comes to the saskatoons we are picking on their behalf so they want a third of whatever we pick. But it doesnt end there, they started it as a U-pick and even though we are renting this place and agreed to pick for them, they still send people here to pick - without bothering to let us know they are coming. And then our landlord expects us to receive the payment (she didnt even ask if its ok with us)so we have people ringing on our doorbell at any time of the day. And thr landlord can show up whenever to work in the yard, without letting us know they are coming. And the firepit in the yard is considered shared area, so if they want to hangout and have a fire they will just stay and do that.
Its not a good situation
Hmm... I'll fix up the apartment out back and y'all can come live in the hot dry desert of Texas and turn it into a tropical Haven of life! Hahaha
Hehe not sure i can survive without snow & winters!! :o quite tempting tho!

Thanks, we were quite excited too but since our landlords are making life quite difficult it remain to be seen if we stay here.
That must be a bit disconcerting. Making such a beautiful home but on a difficult persons property. I hope it works out perfectly
