Hatching Duck Eggs: Update

in #homesteading7 years ago

These photos aren’t of live duck or developing eggs but they’re still informative.

The first one is of an egg that I am pretty sure is not fertilized. It’s mostly see through and there are no veins, which would indicate embryonic development.

In the second one you can see the beginning of what looks like a red ring in the yolk. From what I’ve read this is usually indicative of infection. There are also no veins in this one and for these reasons I removed these eggs from the rest.

The rotten egg needed no picture and I can describe the smell if you ever want me to. Horrid. All the eggs spent over seven days in the incubator so they all got the same treatment. Down to seven but I am hopeful. Stay tuned for more!

I know what you're talking. We incubate eggs as well and can definitely tell when there's a rotten one in there. LOL

It’s hard to lose one but when you know, you know. 😂
