PILLOW STYLE MOCHI
Hello there steemit friends! Today I want to share to you all how to make pillow style mochi in two different flavors. Mochi is one of my favorite Japanese food, so I wanted you all to know how good it is if you haven't tried them at all! I was definitely inspired to make this blog because of my love for Mochi.
This is what Pillow Style Mochi looks like if you don't know
What is Mochi?
Mochi is made of 'mochigome' which is a glutinous rice a.k.a sweet rice or sticky rice.
People use many different food to stuff mochi such as anko (red bean paste) and bean paste (shiro an). But, in this tutorial I'm going to make Purple Yam and Green Mung Mochi. You can also make mochi with ice-cream! Mochi is really yummy so I really hope you all try making some! It's so easy to make.
I suggest you watch this video just to get some idea on how Mochi dough is being prepared

Mind you that in this video I will not use the same measurements of the ingredients as well as their brands. Also in making Mochi I prefer steam cooking to have better consistency rather than microwaving.
So lets begin!
What you need:
Measurements/ equipment will depend on how you want to make it.
Also pleaseeee, if you're allergic to something, double check the ingredients
500 grams glutinous rice flour
10 grams cake flour
10 grams wheat starch
90 grams white sugar
100 grams cornstarch - dusting
230 grams purple yam paste (filling)
230 grams mung paste (filling)
450 ml water
1 tbsp honey
1 tsp vegetable oil
small weighing scale
measuring spoon/cup
rubber spatula
small flour sifter
bowl
roller
steamer
Step 1
Sift dry ingredients except the filling. Add water, oil, honey and mixed it well!
Step 2
Cover the mixing bowl with culinary plastic wrap then place into the steamer.
Step 3
After 45 minutes, put mochi whatever surface you decide to use. Don't forget to dust some constarch on the working table.
Be careful because the bowl might be hot! Spread the mochi in horizontal manner.
The mochi should be pillowy soft probably like gummy candy.
Step 4
Prepare and place filling into the mochi dough which are shown in the pictures below.
Step 5
Dust off some flour and give it some looove,, slice like a pro.
If it looks like this 👇 and you can't tell the difference between the two, you know you've nailed it.
