Now before you go thinking that I'm having some crazy affair, let me explain. While my husband is away this weekend I will be responsible for managing things in his absence. So what's this baby business all about? If you haven't read my husbands blog post @rakkasan84 Incubating Eggs at home using the Brinsea Octagon Advance, I highly recommend giving this valuable content a few minutes of your time if you have ever considered doing something like this yourself. It has been two days since we started the incubation process, and things are going as expected. In a little over two weeks we will have baby chicks, stay tuned for adorable photos and how we prepare the baby chickens for the big world.

While my husband is away creating exciting content to share with you, I'll be tending to things around the homestead. He has left some large shoes to fill. While I won't be responsible for a fraction of the many things that keep this place up and running , I have a huge appreciation for all of the hard work my husband has put into our property while I continued working in the financial industry. We strive to find balance between work and home life, but here on the homestead there is always work to be done. Thankfully this weekend I won't be doing it alone.

Meet my Boston Terrier Jackson and our cat Deathclaw Murderkitten. How does a cat get a name like Deathclaw Murderkitten? If you'd like to know more stick around for my upcoming blog on Deathclaw and how she has proven to be a valuable asset to our homestead. Jackson on the other hand doesn't do much, other than being a great companion and a waste disposal for any food he can get his paws on.

After tending to the chickens this morning I took a walk up hill to snack on our holy basil plants. If you haven't tried it you simply must. Ocimum tenuiflorum commonly referred to as holy basil is a perennial plant native to India. This plant has a beautiful aroma and tastes just like pixie stick candy to these taste buds. It is cultivated for religious and medicinal purposes and the plant is revered as an elixir of life. Holy basil or Tulasi has been used in Ayurveda for thousands of years as an adaptogen and used in many remedies for a variety of ailments. One of our favorite ways to enjoy the plant is by making tea from it.
