Our First Duck Massacre
It was bound to happen at some point, right? Well, it did. Last week, we experienced our first duck massacre.
Not one..
Not two...
Not three...
...but four of our female Khaki Campbell ducks, missing or dead. All in one night. Happy morning to us!
So it began... Mission: Catch the weasel responsible for this massacre (literally)!
Tools:
Spade shovel
The head of one unfortunate and recently deceased duck
Live trap
.22 rifle (sorry, I'm not releasing this menace back out to the wild)
We moved our ducks in with our chickens (our chickens have a much more predator-proof coop). A quick spade shovel to the neck of one of our dead ducks gave me the bait I needed to set my live trap. With the live trap set next to the door of the duck coop, and a little patience, we caught ourselves the culprit of the previous nights bloodbath.
"NO SOUP DUCK FOR YOU!"
Goodbye you cute little menace!

Four!!! Wow!! I'd be sending my husband out there with the .22 as well!
Yeah, it was slightly depressing.
Sorry about your ducks. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try to protect the furry/feathery ones, the wild ones win. But you did all you could do. Mr. Weasel had to go.
Thank you @fernowl13 They do seem to attract some unwanted visitors. Last year it was a sly fox and a skunk that made off with a few chickens.
I'll trade you a weasel for a possum! The possums are just as bad. It is all out war on these vermin!
@cecicastor I have yet to see a possum around these parts, maybe we are too far north (I can only hope). The old timers do like to say the cold keeps the riffraff out. Do they go after chickens and ducks too?
They love birds of any kind, period. Eat the eggs too. Some folks like them saying they are cute. To me, they are a preditor pest.
