RE: Cabin Fe-ve-r and SNOW!

wowowowowow i cannot believe your amount of snow. holy bajeeez! i am for sure going to tell ini- this is one reason i said i just couldn't homestead in canada- i don't do that well in freezing temps or permanent snow... but he suuuuper misses it! we could use a little (we've only gotten 1 snow that lasted a day lol)-- is it 8 ft + all over the homestead or does it blow up and make piles around the house? absolutely incredible.....

Sort:

Around the house is the worst. The snow does build up quite a lot and this one wall the absolute worst of all. We've never had this much snow pile up there before - this is a record.

We keep the front shoveled, and the driveway cleared so that people can come and go, but it gets tighter and tighter as winter goes on. It's quite deceiving out there because It looks all flat and even, but the snow is higher than the garden fences in some areas - at least 3-4 feet deep. Snowshoes are the best because walking in it you'll quickly sink past your knees.

One thing I love is how everything sounds in the winter. It's like the world is so silent that each sound is amplified and almost startling at times. Somtimes it's just me and the odd crow making any noise at all. You can just imagine all the creatures cuddles up in the forest, and there I am stomping around making all that racket. There's also a crisp freshness that fills your lungs that is quite exhilarating. Winter is special just ...too long.
