SIMPLE HOMESTEADING FENCE GATE HACK!!!

in #homesteading6 years ago

This one was a blessing to encounter!

I recently mentioned how we are checking out some other homesteads in the area and meeting up with some people who are raising Jacob's Sheep as well. Along the way, we are learning all sorts of things, and this is one that I really appreciated!

CHECK THIS OUT!!!

A SIMPLE WAY TO MAKE AN EASY TO USE GATE IN CATTLE PANEL FENCING

On our homestead, we are using a lot of cattle panels to make some tough fences. Sometimes we have to move animals from one side of the fence to another, and when we do, it can take some effort. I don't want to spend a lot of money buying pre-made gates, so I've been just wiring them shut and then undoing the wire when I need to open them. Not any more!

Then I ran across a guy who was using these clips to secure the cattle panels together. They would not only be held tight and secure when not being used as a gate, they are easy to open when you need to move animals through them! This is a great, and cheap, idea! I love practical, easy, and inexpensive solutions!

Monster Truck the Pepper and I made our first gate this way today on the homestead. Soon we will replace them all. This will save a lot of time since I no longer have to unwrap and rewrap wire every time we move animals through. Also, these will last a lot longer too!

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

Until next time…

Nice, one of those "why didn't I think of that?"moments lol I'm not a homesteader but I get the same vibe when I visit other artist's studios. I almost always learn some little trick. One thing painters often do is dip their paint brush in their coffee mug instead of paint water mug. I learned to use a tin can for my paint water, and it's easier not to mix that up with my coffee mug lol

That sounds like a good lesson to learn too! LOL! Enough red and blue coffee for one day!

I also never really need to wash it... Just a quick rinse does the trick! AND - if it ever gets knocked off my table, it won't shatter. Going on 4 years with the same paint can! lol

Free your mind and the rest will follow.
Simple trick but very helpful and cut the work fast.
Keep on steemin'

Hmm... Looks pretty simple and much easier to handle. We have a goat shed to and I've never thought of something like this before, always the old fashioned twist and untwist.

These are cheap enough for me to make the switch.

Yeah that's right.... This is what is called being innovative and creative.
One with such attributes is bound to excel......nice idea
I am very happy for you @papa-pepper
Always improvising, you are so good at it. At least now you didn't have to spend so much on that.
Go's grace is upon you, thumbs up sir

the only way to move higher and accomplish things in life with ease is been able to always face a challenge squarely and defeat it through ingenuity

This is what distinguishes one from an indolent person who always gives excuses for mishaps

Challenges makes us stronger and more confident in ourselves especially once we defeat such a challenge.

Since I have known you, you always improvising, could remember your home made milking machine, I was really impressed.
Keep it up sir, your children will do more than this, because they have a father that tackles challenge any time it presents itself. The amazing thing is that you usually involved them. This is great.
Kudos sir., God is taking you higher

Ah ha! I beat you to it @papa-pepper ! I found a bunch of these caribeaner-type of clips in southern states store a couple years ago. I've been using them on my apple orchard fencing to close my "gate-flap" instead of spending the time to dig holes, sink posts, concrete, etc. They work like a freaking charm!

Well, I may be late, but I'm blessed to finally join the club!

Is better to be late than never.

that's the key for the sheep .. if for a thief I do not think so. If we can get lost all the sheep all the keys

Thankfully I do not think thieves will be an issue here.

yes proof. hopefully safe proof. success and hopefully happy always

Nice!! In Nigeria, people build fences with bricks, to take no chances! Lol

In my house we did something similar but with wire from the hooks to hang clothes since my dogs run away to the street and the truth served a lot of help. A big hug for you from Venezuela

That is such a wonderful and simple idea! Think of how many hours it will save you during your lifespan ;)
I love these simple hacks

No kidding! I'm excited when I find stuff like this out!

It's a great idea dear sir I will try it for my goat guard.
It will reduce my headache and so many things.
Thank you
