I like the way earthen structures look, often times they have rounded corners and edges. I hear the point about the labor involved, I imagine a group of helpful hands is the way to go.
Another approach I have seen used with good result is to use the cob inside a wood structure, to soften then walls or make decorative accents like the examples you shared.
For some reason when I view cob homes, they often bring to mind images of hobbit homes.

Yeah, a few years, back I was considering using cob to build a house. It looked like an economical option, but I soon realized, it requires a great deal of sweat equity, and time. I still think it's a wonderful option for building material, perhaps I will find a small project and time to explore this further someday.

Yes I personally see strawbale housing with earth rendering as a more time effective method. Also suits the colder climate better.
