Goji Berry Bushes!!

in #homesteading7 years ago (edited)

I was outside taking pictures of my Goji Berry Bushes that I just purchased and when I came in and got online I saw that @papa-pepper had recently done a post on his Goji Berries. I am SO excited about this addition to our farm. Right now we are trying to decide where we want to plant them and if we use the spot I have in mind we are going to have to dedicate some time to mowing the tall grass in that area. Anyone else enjoy Goji Berries? We love them, although our budget doesn't allow us to indulge often. We are excited to try to grow our own here in Central Kentucky!

i have too in my garden, but the don't have fruits. maybe it's too cold for them :/

How long have you had them and what area do you live in?

Germany South. I have them now for over a Year maybe two, but i let them outside over Winter, even if it was recommendet to take them inside. They survived pretty well and grow good. there was a cold period here in early spring, i think it could be because of this. i have a little plum tree that also didn't had any fruits this year because of that. Or maybe they need some years before they have fruits like kiwis?

Goji is a "superfood" isn't it? High in antioxidants and other good for you things. We've actually never tried them but it's on the list. Good luck with yours❗️

Yes, it is a superfood! Super expensive, so we've only splurged on them a handful of times! :)

We grew them for a few seasons but they just died. I found the taste a little off putting. They were more pepper hot than berry flavor.

Bummer that yours died! That makes me nervous! I have only eaten them dried and enjoyed the flavor. I wonder if they taste different fresh? I guess I am about to find out. Hopefully. If my plants live. Ha!

I'll trade you some cuttings in the spring if you want, or some seeds later on in the year. We have two varieties so far!

That would be awesome @papa-pepper :)
