Our New Lakeside View - Flooding On The Farm

in #homesteading7 years ago

It's never a dull moment when you have a farm! We awoke early yesterday morning and several areas of our pastures had flooded overnight. We were a little surprised that the flooding happened so quickly (overnight)!

This is part of our largest pasture.

Our Jersey cow, Sweet Daisy Mae, was enjoying her lakeside view until she wound up surrounded by water on her little "island." Luckily, she was near a gate and I was able to rescue her without walking through water. What you can't see in the picture is that under all that water are a few sink holes. Our fear was that eventually she would get hungry and could potentially step into a sink hole trying to make it back up to the barn. I also worried that if the water rose she could end up in a bad situation.

This is another pasture of ours that is flooded as well.

The neighbor had some flooding on his property and our free range ducks quickly found their way over there and enjoyed splashing and swimming in the water!

The rain continues to fall, but most of the flooding receded overnight. Our "lake" seems to have disappeared as fast as it arrived.

It's a good thing I live in Kentucky where we have an ark prepared. LOL ;)

I'm glad it has receded that could have gotten really bad.
