Despite the wall separating them they gather for a picnic
Peace and brotherhood have always needed strong symbols to survive. In this sense, JR's initiative is simply brilliant and necessary. On October 9, this French artist simply organized a giant picnic on both sides of the border between the United States and Mexico. The result is surreal and striking images.
For the occasion, JR had erected a gigantic sheet under the imposing metal barrier separating the two countries (and the two peoples). On this tablecloth had been previously printed the look of Mayra, a young Mexican described as a dreamer.
"People shared the same food, water, music (the group was split in two) around the eyes of a dreamer. We forgot the wall for a moment."
The event took place at the same place where, two months ago, JR had already erected the giant portrait of a Mexican child.
