Introduction to an Anxious White Virgin

in #humor8 years ago

Hello there Steemit world. I'm The Anxious White Virgin, and before you ask, no, this isn't a smut site.

I actually chose the name of my Blog years ago while I was in my undergraduate program. Our professor wanted us to write about something we were passionate about, and something we thought might be interesting to others.

So naturally I decided to write about myself.

My life reads better than fiction. No seriously. Have you ever heard of Murphy's Law?

This is pretty much my life.

As just a teeny tiny example -- I spent a good hour putting together this first post, but before I could actually publish it, my roommate picked up my laptop and without "touching anything" successfully erased the entire thing.

So I apologize if this second attempt is a bit more.....abbreviated.

Maybe it's better this way. I do tend to be a bit long winded -- especially when it comes to subjects that interest me -- and by far the subject that interests me the most is Human Behavior.

As a person who has never really felt like they fit into the whole "normal" group of society, I have spent the better part of my life trying to figure out humans, why they do what they do, what drives them, and what it all means.  Some therapists have suggested that I (along with others I'm sure) do this because we are trying to learn what it is to be normal, so that we can mimic the behavior and finally "fit in." Honestly, there are times that the behavior of humans is so weird/gruesome/confusing that I would just prefer not fit in -- though that doesn't stop me from be fascinated by them.

Trees are trees, and rocks are rocks, and the world is what the world is, but humans.....humans are.....something else.

And so this blog is about me and my stories -- but it is also about you and your stories, and I really want to hear your stories. More than half of the reason I am doing this is because I want to hear what you have to say about the things I write about. I want to hear about your personal experiences, and your thoughts/feelings/beliefs. I want you to ask me questions, and I want everyone who participates to know that this is a safe place to talk about whatever you want.

Even though I understand propriety and social graces, I have also never been one to shy away from any subject, regardless of it's "taboo" nature.  I have always believed that there is nothing wrong with simply talking about something. Talking, discussing, debating, this is how we work shit out, and I've noticed as the years go by that we don't really TALK to each other anymore. We shout, we rally, we protest, we troll, we passive-aggressively post, but we don't talk. It's almost as if we have forgotten that it's OK for someone to hold an opinion that is different than our own.

Which is pretty ironic if you think about it since we supposedly are living in one of the most "tolerant " ages of human history.

Has anyone else noticed this?

The tolerance movement, has, in and of itself at times become an oppressive and utterly intolerant force.

Or maybe it's just me.

I may understand social etiquette, but that doesn't mean I always agree with it. By nature, I am an overly sharing and blunt human.  Ironically, this trait that I use to think was some innate part of my "soul" may actually be due a diagnosis of high function autism.

Says everyone I have told since the diagnosis.

Says me.

It certainly explain a lot though.....

So there you have it. I suppose.  I'm just a anxious white NONE OF YOUR DAMN BUSINESS *wink* (possibly autistic) girl with an endless supply of personal horror stories, and a desire to see a world where we can talk about literally anything without it turning into the complete denigration of everyone who dares to open their mouth.

I guess you could say I'm a dreamer.

Want to join me?
