Make and save enough money that you don’t need to sell out your convictions to keep a job or a client. If you’re afraid to say unpopular things because of what your boss might think, you’re arguably no more free than someone in a Communist society.

Being able to speak your mind has a price.

“Free speech” doesn’t mean there won’t be consequences. Pay the price by putting yourself in a financial situation that allows you to live, and speak, fearlessly.
