I woke up early today because it is the time of Navratri worship; since I needed to clean the home temple, I quickly took a bath and got ready. After finishing all the general household cleaning chores, I began cleaning the temple area. Once the temple was clean, I dressed the Goddess in a new lehenga and adorned her with a garland. I was observing a fast today; by the time the temple cleaning was complete, my husband had also finished his bath and was ready.

Since the morning worship rituals become a bit more extensive during Navratri—specifically because the Aarti must be performed—my husband quickly proceeded with the prayers. I joined him in the worship, and in the meantime, I had put the tea on the stove to brew. After performing our prayers together, my husband and I sat down to enjoy our tea.

Afterward, my husband left for the shop. Since I am the only one in the house observing a fast, I cooked meals for my children and my husband; I was just contemplating what I should prepare for myself when my husband called to inform me that he had sent some pedas (sweet milk fudge) and bananas home.

I thought to myself, "Well, now I won't have to cook anything else!" I served breakfast to the children, then gathered my own fasting food and water—along with my husband's meal—and headed off to the shop.

Upon reaching the shop, I noticed that my husband had fully stocked and organized the entire counter with Falahari (fasting-friendly) provisions. For the Navratri trading season, my husband ensures our shop is well-stocked with items such as Kuttu (buckwheat) flour, Singhara (water chestnut) flour, peanuts, peanut oil, Makhana (fox nuts), and various dry fruits. This is particularly important because there stands a magnificent and grand temple dedicated to Goddess Kali right next to our shop. This temple is renowned far and wide as the "Badi Kali Ji Ka Mandir" (The Great Kali Temple).

This temple is an astonishing two and a half thousand years old. It holds immense spiritual significance, and devotees travel from far-flung places just to visit and seek blessings (Darshan) here.

I returned home by 3:15 PM. By then, I was feeling hungry myself, and the children also asked, "Mommy, could you make something for us?" So, I decided to prepare Aloo ka Halwa (potato pudding)—something I could eat as well—and Kuttu flour fritters (Pakoras), which are quick to prepare and also suitable for my fasting diet. By the time I had finished all these tasks, it was already 5:00 PM. Afterward, I lay down for a little while, as I was feeling a bit tired. I spent a short time writing a post for Steemit, and then I set about preparing dinner. Since today is a fasting day, the entire meal would consist of falahari (fast-friendly) dishes; typically, I prepare the same meal for everyone in the evening.

Cooking separate meals can be quite a hassle, so I prepared puris made from buckwheat flour (kuttu), a tangy potato curry, and kheer made with fox nuts (makhana). To prepare the dough, we mix boiled potatoes into the buckwheat flour and knead it; however, we only prepare the dough immediately before frying the puris, as otherwise, the buckwheat flour tends to become too runny.

My husband arrived by 8:30 PM; I quickly served dinner to everyone and then served myself. In this way, my fast for the day came to a close. I tidied up the kitchen promptly and then joined everyone to watch TV.
