Eid Day 2: Back to Routine Amid Fatigue and Orchard Work

It was Eid day 2, and now normal life was back with very little excitement of Eid. That’s one of the holiest days of the Islamic calendar, which is actually a festival, and day 2 is also considered to be the same festive day as the first Eid by people, not by Islamic tenets. I wasn’t able to sleep all night because I wasn’t feeling good at all. I vomited a couple of times and was having an aching stomach, maybe because of indigestion, and as I have a habit of not consuming medicines too much, I didn’t take any medicines this time too. For that reason, the relief came a little later, and it was only in the last phase of the night that I got asleep.

I was in deep sleep in the morning when my mom came to call me up, as she didn’t know that I hadn’t been able to sleep well throughout the night. This time, she came with a call from my uncle, who had asked me if I was going to accompany them to the orchard where we were going to spray pesticides, as the season had just started. We were already late to apply mineral oil over these trees because of the hot spring season, which has actually been unusually warm after a long span of about 40 years. Because of that, we couldn’t spray the mineral oil within time, and for that reason, this spring pesticide work started a little late. Moreover, the prediction of rain had made it necessary to spray these pesticides today, because tomorrow there would be good rain, which would make these pesticides ineffective if sprayed then.

Anyways, I was going to have my breakfast, but I had some headache, and then I headed towards my orchard. I also needed to carry the pump there in my car, and this time my mom also accompanied me. We have a water reservoir just beneath our orchard, so water storage isn’t a problem over there. I was going to finish the spraying work there in the orchard, and then I needed to go to a different side of the village, where we have one more orchard. I also needed to take with me some containers that could accommodate not too much quantity of water, but more than a hundred litres. This time there, I needed to collect water before spraying the pesticides from a nearby stream, and for that I had to lift the water through the pump. It took me some time, and by late afternoon, I was able to finish my job.

Today, I had no lunch because I felt that I needed to stay hungry to help myself stay fit, as I was accustomed to fasting, and it had actually become a daily routine for me for the past one month. Changing abruptly, the eating habits and having food throughout the day actually made my stomach a little upset, for which I bore the brunt throughout the night.

Later, upon reaching back home, I first got fresh and took a shower so that I could remove any pesticides if they had stuck to my body. Only after that, I had some tea and a few cookies, and then took some light food. After that, I went to see my friends who, because of Eid, had gathered in the market, and we all were having a holiday to share with each other. I couldn’t miss out on that. It was only after a long time that we were all together, and it wasn’t something that I could let go, because I consider my friends to be precious, and spending some time with them is always close to my heart. I regard it as the highest deed I could do as far as worldly affairs are concerned.

Later, I returned back home, had a light dinner again, and then I was going to go to bed because I was feeling that sleep deficit throughout the day. Going to bed a little earlier was advised to me, as it could help me regain some of my energy and also restore my activity.
