Independence Day.
I look at independence day as a great concept that the state coopted and corrupted. To me it's not the celebration of the formation of the US government, it's a celebration of a group of people getting together to declare independence from a tyrannical government. That the same group later formed a shiny new tyrannical government was an insult to the independence that they had fought for, and a cautionary tale for those of us who seek to wrest power from the current oligarchy.

Yes, a key people often forget is they celebrate the day they declared their independence, not the day they won it. It was a declaration of war against a mighty empire that everyone though would win. The empire did not though because people were willing to die defending their liberties.
We have come so far from those days though... in the wrong direction. Die for liberty? Pfft. Most people won't get off their couch to help a neighbor let alone defend liberty's cause. It's a disgrace.
