विनेश ने पहले राउंड में शुरुआत में चार अंक लिए. इसके बाद विनेश ने जापानी खिलाड़ी को मैट पर गिराया, लेकिन जापानी खिलाड़ी ने शानदार डिफेंस करते हुए अपने कंधों को जमीन पर नहीं लगने दिया. पहले राउंड में विनेश 4-0 से आगे थीं
विनेश ने 18वें एशियाई खेलों में 50 किलोग्राम फ्रीस्टाइल स्पर्धा के फाइनल में जापान की इरी युकी को मात देकर पहला स्वर्ण पदक हासिल किया. विनेश एशियाई खेलों में स्वर्ण पदक जीतने वाली भारत की पहली महिला पहलवान बनी हैं.
