Would you drink Kopi Luwak Coffee, if you knew how it was made?

Well we did and this was our experience!

The Balinese are obsessed with coffee, Kopi Luwak is a local coffee delicacy that is the most expensive in the world!
We wanted to visit a coffee plantation and really find out how this famous coffee was made. We hired a driver for the day and travelled to Satria Coffee Plantation in Ubud.

On arrival you walk through the plantation with a guide, stop to see the Luwak cats and then get to see how the coffee beans are made. A lady is sat stiring a huge pot of coffee beans, the smell of fresh roasted coffee spreads throughout the plantation, she even lets you give it a stir!

They explain the Luwak cats select and eat only the best quality coffee beans from around the plantation and when it has been digested and eventually comes out the other end, it is then harvested and turned into the famous Kopi Luwak coffee, loved by many around the world! Sounds gross I know!

We sat down and sampled some different coffees and teas for free, whilst soaking up the views! We definitely wanted to try the Cat Poo coffee, so we ordered a cup for an extra fee.

Surprisingly it was very smooth, the roasting was light/medium and my boyfriend being the coffee lover out of the two of us, gave it a thumbs up!
It can also be complimented with a cigarette, which is made out of locally grown tobacco.

We bought some Kopai Luwak Coffee back for family and friends and I purchased some saffron tea too from the gift shop!

The coffee beans are priced at $500 per pound and the price for a cup of this coffee in a regular coffee shop could be anything between $35-100.
However in Indonesia its around $5 a cup! Bargain!
