After the long walk down from Mount Semeru a jeep was waiting for us at Ranu Pane to take us to a hostel close to our next goal, Bromo volcano. After a long shower to rinse al volcano dust of and a short night of sleep we woke up at 3:00 am to see the sunrise over our next volcano. Luckily this time a jeep was waiting for us.
The plan for today is to watch Mounty Bromo from a hill close-by and then climb the volcano to look into the crater.

Got on the hill in time for sunrise

The volcano seems surrounded with water but it’s the black sand from eruptions.

Our ride for the day :-)

We get dropped off about 2 km from the volcano where a couple of 100 jeeps stay parked and have to walk the final part. Normally this would be a walk in the park but after the 2 day Semeru hike our muscles ache and our feet hurt.

The crater is so big it’s hard to capture it in 1 photo. Watch the dtube video's to get an idea. You can't image the smell and sound if you haven't been there. The sulfur damps and roaring sound was impressive and made me feel small against nature's power.

Nice Mouth Mask Pieter! :D

nice picture..
I wanted to go to the mountain tour bromo, I heard the place was very cold, but for me it is not possible because it is very far from Aceh... :)

It's quite cold indeed. Especially compared to the rest of Indonesia. But it's nothing compared to the freezing cold of the mount Semeru summit.

And they rent out winter jackets and hats everywhere :-)
