Democrats are not "in the mainstream."

New ABC News-WSJ poll shows that only 33% of the US public believes that the democrat party is in the mainstream, while 56% do not. Only two years ago the public believed that the dems were in the mainstream by a margin of 48% to 43%. This does not bode well for their electoral prospects in 2018 and beyond.
