OVERCOMING THE SHADOWS OF THE PAST… MAXIMIZING THE PRESENT
The Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary (International Students Edition) defines The Past as the time that has gone by; things that have happened in an earlier time
A huge number of us have issues with overcoming the past. We tend to concentrate on victories and losses that we have incurred in times past. These events tend to hinder use from concentrating on the present or even planning for the future.
Some are so joyful about the achievements of the past that they do not even live in the present not to talk of maximizing the opportunities it has offer neither do they anticipate. The other class of people are so bitter of the past that they do not remember to enjoy the present or the possibilities of actualizing dreams in the nearest future.
Both classes of people have one thing in common, this is the inability to overcome the shadows of the past. There are huge dangers in dwelling in the past. The major danger is that it brings life to a halt and ultimately hinders growth
Ultimately, we must move on from the past no matter how sweet or bitter it is. This is an effort has to be made irrespective of how emotional we feel about the memories derived. It is a step that has to be made if we truly desire growth in life.
Overcoming the past is one thing but truly maximizing the opportunities the present has to offer is a whole different job entirely. To do this we must be alert to our environment and the opportunities lying in wait. Like they say success is opportunity meeting a prepared person.
The benefits of living in the present cannot be over emphasized. Neither can the joy and opportunities that lie in wait be undermined.
Therefore, let us let things of the past dwell in the past and enjoy the present.
