Today, the internet has entered a new age called the Internet of Things (IoT). The concept of IoT is very simple. It can be defined as the interconnection of everyday objects through computers and of course the internet. These objects can communicate with each other and be managed by a central computer. If we were to look at the objects in our home, we could see several machines that are already connected to our computer. One example is our printer. This in a way is the simplest kind of IoT. Since the invention of world wide web, cloud computing and bluetooth as a mean of connection, the number of connected devices have growth in the past several years. Cisco has reported that by 2020, there will be approximately 50 billion things connected to the internet. Not to mention, the birth of smartphones and other 'smart things' (like smart light bulbs) will only accelerate the wide adoption of IoT. Can you guys imagine if our clothes are connected to the internet or the computer? I can't. Not at the moment.

But is 'Internet of Things' secure? One study says that every device that is easily connected to other device has more vulnerabilities compare to the traditional washing machine that is not connected to the internet (sorry for the silly example made here). One of the many vulnerabilities that is obvious is code modification. With many cybercriminals out there is a higher chance that these devices can be modified or hacked to their liking. This is even worse for any device that store our financial details. So what is the solution to create a more sustainable IoT world? Increase cyber security? What are your thoughts?
