☄️ The "Interstellar Visitor": Comet 3I/ATLAS

in #interstellar3 days ago

Perhaps the rarest event of the month is the passage of Comet 3I/ATLAS.

Historical Significance: This is only the third interstellar object ever detected in our solar system (following 'Oumuamua and Borisov).

Rare Observations: Just last week, NASA’s Europa Clipper spacecraft used its unique position in space to capture rare ultraviolet data of the comet’s tail while it was hidden from Earth's view by the Sun's glare.

Chemical Mystery: Observations from the James Webb Space Telescope recently revealed that the comet’s "coma" (the cloud around it) contains nickel but no iron—a chemical combination that is extremely rare and puzzling to astronomers.
