Medieval Dark Castle Dance Party
Let me introduce myself again to my growing team of new friends here on Steemit.
I am @creativetruth here, and these are the fun people I get to work with as a dance instructor. We just had our third annual Medieval Dark Castle costume party to celebrate the October holiday. I decided to put on my Goth costume (apparently only my generation even knows what that is), and here you can see the results. I am on the far right side of the photo above. This is the first time I have offered a portrait photo of myself on Steemit, so this kind of exciting.
This year I had the same effect on my friends as the last time I freaked people out with this getup. Fake tattoos, fake piercing, fake hair color, gel mohawk, eye make-up, painted nails, chains, spikes, and finger-less gloves. People look at me, and then quickly avert their eyes. My friends at the party are all disappointed because they are wondering why I'm not there. An hour later they say they did not recognize me, or did not notice me. Other women are asking me to post for photo ops, and saying I should dress this way more often. Normally I am quite straight laced and repetitive in how I manage my clothes and hair.
My mother asked me before I went out, "what are you supposed to be?"
My response, "The kind of person you probably wouldn't want your daughter dating."
This was our greeter at the front desk. She's truly a wizard, and works wonders to help us out with the building facilities and guests.
One of our crafty students cut out this cool dragon stencil for our theme party the first year we ran it. The original one was cut out from cardboard, and it was very heavy and did not fold up well. Now we have this one made out of plastic, and it is easier to hang up and pack up.
A suit of mail decorates the back wall of the ballroom.
Our Host with the Most ran the back room, and he brought all of these lights and a fog machine. I have never been to a dance party that looked this cool before.
Since I really couldn't get enough enjoyment out of these lights as I wanted, I had to take three photos of my own.
Next time I should take a video. I really liked the way the lights moved and changed colors.
Every party starts out with a lesson. Tonight we picked a dance style they most likely danced in the Medieval ages: The Waltz.
In American style Waltz, you get to do underarm turns like this. If you think I am lifting my arm for my partner to go through underneath, you would be wrong, although a very good guess. This is the dance position as the follower is completing the turn, a three-step-spin that ends in a pivot to face the leader.
Dancers enjoyed grooving to the pop music in the back room with our DJ.
Another photo opportunity.
So happy that I get to teach dancing at one of the largest ballrooms in the nation. The floor here is soft and smooth. Our community is supporting and friendly with singles and beginners. It really was a fun night to kick back, dress up, and have fun like a kid again.
Nicely worked out post, way to go!
