Tell your wonderful wife that she doesn't need to post stories or anything on Steemit. Some of the most successful members focus on curating and commenting on posts. No need to be a novelist to do that!

The money will come. I love your idea about doing a ongoing story chain. I think that is something that might do really well. The beauty with Steemit is that you can format comments and ad pictures the same as if it was the original post.
You know, I hadn't thought of continuing the stories after pay-out by re-generating. Maybe I go with just a few, combine and create specific storylines to continue using the responses so that suddenly I go from 1 post to 12 posts and so on. I'll have to consider it and test it out.
put a cap on it. New Chapter starts on day 7... you could have 7 stories running at the same time
Maybe choose the best 7 and have a prize (when I make enough). Great idea!
