Hello Steem — Finally Posting After All These Years
Hello everyone. My name is Emeka! 32 now, sysadmin / dev (in between jobs at the moment) from Enugu, Nigeria.
I created this account a while back because a friend showed me Steemit and I was curious... I was working at a hosting company at the time, managing Linux servers, and the idea of a decentralized social media built on blockchain sounded interesting so I jumped in. I powered up some Steem, learned the basics, but then work consumed all my time and I kept saying "I will start posting next week." That next week never came. (LOL! Happens to me on many things in life I now realize.. ;-) ....).
Then crypto winter happened, Steem price dropped and... yeah I just forgot about the whole thing for a long time.
So Why Now?
So about three months ago the company I was at restructured and my contract was not renewed. First time in years I actually have time on my hands. Was going through old backups looking for some project files and found my Steem keys.. and here we are!
Hobbies & Interests
Outside of work.. I've always loved writing. Growing up I read tons of science fiction — Asimov, Octavia Butler, Nnedi Okofor (!! if you haven't read her work please do) — and I have notebooks full of short stories that I never published anywhere. Stories about technology, what the future might look like for Africa, traditional life meets modern tech.. some serious, some just me having fun. Like what happens if you gave a village chief root access to the internet? ;-)
I also follow crypto pretty closely. Not really as a trader, more from the engineering side — how blockchains work, smart contracts, that kind of thing. I even bought a Cool Cats NFT during the hype in 2021... which is now worth close to nothing LOL. But I still use it as my profile picture because why not.
What Will I Write About????
Thinking about a mix of things:
- Creative writing — short stories, speculative fiction, mostly tech-themed stuff
- Tech posts — tutorials, tools I use, things I learn during job search
- Life in Nigeria — Enugu perspectives, daily observations, the hustle
- Contest entries — seen some interesting weekly challenges here and I want to try them!
... ideas? anyone? well .... tbh, this already is ambitious but this is what I have in mind right now, can change over time, we'll see, we'll see!!
Setting everything to 100% power up btw. Want to build stake here, not just grab and run. If Steem is still standing after all these years there must be something worth investng in right?
What I Am Looking For
Want to connect with people, for example writers, devs, of course also other cool Nigerians, women are always welcome too LOL ;-) . ANd I am looking for upvotes, not gonna lie, I do feel some stress without a job at the moment but not desperate... If you know a community or group I should join please drop it in the comments! Also looking for contest recommendations, I like challenges that push me to write about things I wouldn't normally pick.
Anyway... thanks for reading. Feels good to finally post something after all this time!!
