My Intro Post: How I Invested in Cryptos, Stuck it to the Big Banks and Became a Steemian

Hello Everyone!

My name is Dominique. steps curiously out into the light. The exterior, confident, calm, collected. The interior rattling like a rickety rollercoaster.

My friend @zhiv told me about this amazing community a few weeks ago. I thought it sounded like a fabulous combination of community and crypto, but didn’t think I had anything to contribute. But you all kept popping up into my mind. So I made the decision. I shed my clothes and my former identity and dove into the waters. To my surprise, the water feels wonderful, and the local sealife extremely friendly. Wow. I could make this a home.

I’m a lawyer by trade. I know, I know, please don’t click away. A human rights lawyer? Does that make it better? I’m a spiritual being. Intensely spiritual. Intensely passionate about love and peace. Intensely passionate about making this world a better place, dissolving the old paradigms of hate and greed, and manifesting the beautiful world we all know possible. The past few weeks, few years, few decades have really been “bubbling” as my friend calls it. Bubbling. The feeling that something isn’t right, that something needs to give. The steem pun ya’ll comes churning off this bubbling, clearing the way for something new, and more powerful.

And that’s what I’m here to talk about. I don’t know exactly what the bubbling is, or what we are creating in its wake. But things like cryptocurrencies and this amazing community are paving the way for the beautiful world we all know is possible.
I’m also a writer, and I first came to Steam to share a novel I’m working on, a merger between science fiction and spirituality. And then I discovered the true extent of this platform and I thought, let me just immerse myself in the flowing creativity that is already happening here. Let me co-create and vote and read and comment and just surrender to this web that is ebbing and flowing and taking on a life of its own. An introductory post is the custom here, so let me share some about myself:

What led me here?

About a month ago I finished my last ‘traditional job’ project. Since I finished my human rights law degree I had been working in very corporate, very traditional lawyering roles as a German language specialist. All of my projects were reinforcing the establishment. My last one had me helping to defend a bank in a financial regulation case. I found myself working close to 80 hours a week. No day off, holidays and weekends included. And I was defending the same villains who got away with the financial crisis.

Ironically enough, that’s where I got into cryptocurrencies. Some colleagues of mine told me about it. In fact one colleague got into bitcoin and ether when their price was still in the single digits. He’s just bidding his time before he can go off the grid completely. I think, as with many others, this year is his year. He tells me he’s waiting for the time he can use cryptos to buy everything, from groceries to a house. He’s not in it for the money. He’s in it for the ideology behind what the cryptolution represents.

This all sounded great to me and really vibed with my inner world, especially as I was learning the true extent of the banks’ manipulations. So I took all of my paychecks, the ones the bank had paid me invested them into the cryptoworld. It felt amazing, knowing I was contributing to my clients’ downfall and the dawn of a new age. It was a great stick it to the system moment for me. Then I put myself on a path to live my authentic truth. That path has led me here.

Some more tidbits:

I live in London after growing up in southern Germany and studying in Virginia. I spend most of my days with my lovely partner or my flatmate’s majestic cat. I call the park near my home my office. Besides writing, I immerse myself in side projects which mainly have to do with supporting and enabling others to pursue their passion. It’s been an incredible ride, from selling cocoa beans to Chinese companies to repackaging spiritual principles while teaching law in Switzerland. I’ll be writing about these experiences, as well as my own endeavours on my authentic path in the hopes to inspire others on their own journey.
