Introduction

Heya! I’m new to #steemit and wanted to introduce myself.

I’m an aspiring artist. Mistakenly thought I had to choose when I dropped out of school nearly TWENTY SEVEN years ago and chose my family over my own needs for a very long time. It’s kind of shocking to be how long ago that happened. For years I’ve been really struggling with making time and space for creativity, and always insecure and judging it (and me) and not worthy of this effort. But I’ve been feeling that lack and trying to get back into it. Though I had barely begun. 2017 has been a good year for art, and I hope to continue this trajectory.

I dabble is lots of different media. I’m interested in fiber (I LOVE textiles!) including blackwork, art quilts, embroidery as well as drawing and oil painting. I also enjoy collage, life drawing and art journaling. Mostly I’ve been doing the life drawing, art journaling and collage because they haven’t been emotionally overwhelming to me. I can just enjoy the practice and the process without stressing over the outcome. I especially love the fluidity and embellishment of collage, how adding a small detail can transform a whole piece. I’m contemplating using my collages as thumbnails: springboards for larger works.

I’m addition to my interest in the arts, I make a living as a construction admin and like to cook, explore my surroundings, take photos though I’ve slacked on that a lot in the past few years. I’m also a young Granny which of pretty wonderful.

I may “look like a teacher” as a lady at my first Pride said to me, but I’m also a bisexual, queer-identified, cis-gender woman. I don’t feel like I’m part of the overall “queer community” and I sometimes feel like it’s because I don’t look “gay enough”. I’ve been treated that way too, by other LGBTQ people. shrug I know who my people are though, and am learning to worry less and less about what others think of me.

I’m minorly involved in the SCA, not for the role playing and “game” per se (I’m still quite foggy on how that works) but the thing that hooked me was learning about Arts, food and other crafts. Still very new, but still trying.

I look forward to seeing what Steemit has to offer and to contributing more than just soundbytes.
