Greetings Steemit! @marketreport Introduced Me!

Steemit and Quiting the Rat Race

I've been Steeming since 2 months and it's about time I tell you a little bit more about me :

  • My name is Jean-Francois, but you can call me Jeff for short!
  • I am French Canadian
  • I work as a pharmacist
  • Interests : traveling, music (I sing and play guitar), nature, self-improvement techniques and sports

My Story

I used to be like everyone around me : working 9 to 5, doing what the system asked me to do, never questioning or setting goals in my life.

I experienced a lot of anxiety in those days : I didn't know its origins then, but felt hollow and unfulfilled.

In 2012, I started growing interest in finances, after my father showed me an ''emergency'' plan for ''hardships'', which consisted of a few gold bars he had bought in the '90s.

I became aware of cryptocurrencies around 2013, via Brother John F's ''Bitcoin Channel''.

In 2015, I decided to quit the city life and bought my grandparents' 1959 cabin in the wilderness and restored it since.

My Vision and Plans

I have the extreme luxury with my job to try to quit the rat race... part time!
Most people just can't, they have to be all-in.

Here's what's to come next :

  • Working part-time starting this winter
  • Starting a YouTube channel this fall focusing on meditation, relaxation, sleep improvement and self-development videos.
  • Steemit : I will soon blog on these topics using my own experiences and pharmacy background
  • Traveling the world in search for the best content to fuel my channels.

What attracts me to Steemit

Aside from the obvious : I am quite impressed by the quality of the community here : It's all about helping and being positive. A huge contrast from mainstream social medias that often become pissing contests.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to read this. I read all comments and reply to them.

Love this so much! Thank you for this. We are currently doing small scale homesteading on our little 1/3 acres in town (at least we live in a small, remote town) but have dreams of getting my husband out of his stressful job and into something he enjoys, preferably being able to work from home doing what he loves: handcrafted wood and metal projects. We also have hopes of buying more land outside of town and expanding our homestead and building an off grid cabin (we are mostly off grid now with a nice solar set up and water catchment). All that is to say, reading posts like this is so very encouraging to me and I hope and pray we can continue on this path and that between our youtube channel, steemit, and selling our handmade goods, we can make it work.

Thanks to both of you for reducing your footprint. So many ways to live and you are demonstrating that nobody has to settle.

All I can tell you is as long a you have a vision and you keep focusing on it, it's going to happen. It's all about being more independent from the governments and focusing on your own self. It's never been easier nowadays to startup a business and developing passive income online. Take advantage of that! Best of luck! Thanks for the great comment!

Welcome @Jeffcomeau its good to see more Steemians around. Have fun in this community. I wish you many followers and new friends :-) Cheers @chrisx

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Hi @jeffcomeau ! This was a great introduction post, and I am happy to have come across you thanks to it.

I look very much forward to see what you can share on these topics. Working both in the space sector and with entrepreneurial projects on the side, I recently had a complete burnout. I had to let go of a number of things and found meditation as almost a life-saver. The ability to let go, and be able to just observe stress and other emotions run through the mind without letting it affect me more than necessary has truly helped me get back on track and with higher productivity levels than before. Hope you can help others achieve the same!

So I will enjoy reading your post and hope we can both benefit from connecting here on steemit.

Thanks for your tips on the way you meditate, I will apply them! You have the #1 solution with meditation! It is so underestimated and frowned upon socially. I find difficult to talk about it with people around me : they have this conceptualized image of a monk praying, in solitude and asceticism which is far from being the unique way of meditating!

Hahaha, yes and with a lot of new-age spiritual mumbo-jumbo being preached at every yoga-club, there is a bit of a credibility gap to be closed :P

People around me tend to get interested in it when they ask me how I manage to stay calm even when projects we work on get really intense. Or how I stay calm also in heated debates related to work etc. :) I think one has to demonstrate its value, and not just talk about it.

Quite an inspiring story. right from university days, I knew the "RAT RACE" wasn't my thing, so I ventured into photography which happened to be what I am passionate about in my 3rd year. I still had to see my B.Eng Elect/Elect to the end though. Welcome to Steemit @jeffcomeau I have followed you and upvoted, kindly follow back @mykelbankz. Hope you have fun on here.... thumbs.

I can tell you a lot about university : I spent 9 years of my life in 3 different universities. Went up to the doctorate level in cancer research. Most importantly, looking back at it : it was a shelter for me. Deep down, I didn't want to hit the real working life, I was afraid of it. Judging from what I've experienced working for almost 10 years now as a pharmacist I think my fears were somewhat sound. Not because of the nature of my job, but because of its context.

Welcome jeffcomeau to Steemit.

Hi, where do you plan to go to travel?

Good question, I will most definitely go back to Asia, especially Cambodia and Thailand, since I have contacts over there. Would also luv to visit Machu Picchu in Perou. Western Canada (BC) is also on my list, for the beauty of its landscape. But the sky is the limit, my friend!

Machu Picchu is awesome

I like the idea of taking the risk of leaving the rat race and starting to work on yourself. Too many people follow systems and steps to the point where they are no longer working for themselves. I am looking to take the leap in the near future and do a job I enjoy and take interest in, rather than a 9-5 just getting by. Thank you for the post!

Glad to hear that! Keep us posted on your quest.

New member here and enjoyed reading your post.

Thanks, enjoy your ride on Steemit!
